West Indian American Day Carnival


The West Indian–American Carnival Parade are decades-old New York City traditions. They celebrate the best of Caribbean culture and provide fun and festivities for the third leg of a long Labor Day weekend. This year was no exception as scores of people filled Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for the colorful dancers, authentic cultural cuisine and live music. Organized by the WIADCA (West Indian American Day Carnival Association, Inc. and sponsored by hundreds of NYC vendors, this event brings millions to Brooklyn to join in on the fun.

Junior’s Carnival


On one of the hottest days of the summer, New York kids gathered by the hundreds to show off Caribbean-American pride. Held on the Brooklyn Museum grounds, the Junior’s Carnival (or Children’s Labor Day Parade) gives NYC youth a chance to show off their version of the costumes and dancing that the adult Carnival is famous for. Bright feathers, loin clothes, animal print, African makeup, and more – they might not be as big as their adult counterparts but these munchkins did not disappoint.
